Position Summary

Position Title:                   Mechanical Process Lead

Reports To:                       Engineering Manager or General Manager

The Mechanical Process Lead is responsible for designing, implementing, controlling and optimizing manufacturing processes as well as designing innovative processes and equipment. This position is also involved in the modification and optimizing of equipment and processes that are already in place.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist Project Engineering/Project Management with initial project scoping
  • Responsible for the initial phases of tool engineering, including a determination of the complete tooling required, cost estimating and obtaining competitive bids from vendors
  • Write detailed tooling specifications for various types of production tooling, single point tooling, fixtures and complex systems
  • Based on specifications, determine which manufacturing operations will be performed and in what sequence
  • Develop plant layouts for placement and arrangement of machinery and equipment
  • Determine for each operation the number and kind of machine tools used, including fixtures and gauges
  • Engage in the initial phases of quality engineering and determine quality control methods, procedures and techniques to control and improve product quality
  • Develops process engineering scope, design basis and requirements for the design, control and operation of a process within the trim shop
  • Provide manufacturing support to address downtime issues
  • Works with cross-functional teams to help integrate new equipment or process into the plant
  • Demonstrate the Esys Core Beliefs
  • Understand and employ the Esys Quality Management System

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent analytical and creative problem-solving skills
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office programs
  • Ability to work onsite within the Esys offices or at supplier and/or customer locations as required
  • Ability to interact professionally with suppliers and customers, and maintain a positive working relationship, which at times may be under difficult circumstances and/or high-pressure situations
  • Ability to analyze data and processes, and recommend solutions to enhance productivity and/or efficiencies
  • Advanced knowledge of manufacturing and fabrication processes, including machining techniques
  • Strong knowledge of costing items for manufacturing
  • Ability to lead a team in tool development processes

Required Education and Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience working with mechanical design software (ie; Team Center / VisMockup, NX and/or AutoCAD)
  • Prior tool process and design experience

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering discipline
  • Experience working with Factory CAD
  • Prior experience developing manufacturing processes in a trim shop


Supervisory Responsibility:

  • None

Work Environment:

  • Operates in both a professional office environment and a manufacturing environment
  • Routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, scanners, plotters, printers and fax machines
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
  • Will be expected to work on a manufacturing shop floor either at Esys or a customer facility:
    • May involve exposure to hazards
    • Work surfaces may be slippery, unstable or uneven
    • Shop temperatures may not always be controlled and could vary from hot to cold
    • May work in areas where ear, eye, and/or foot protection is required

Physical Demands:

  • Employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs, balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and talk or hear
  • The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities require the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
  • Travel by car and/or plane to company facilities or to customer/supplier locations may be required

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

  • The Mechanical Process Lead is a full-time position
  • Days and hours of work may vary based on the project assigned, with a minimum of eight-hour shifts each day, and a minimum of five workdays per week
  • Evening and overnight work may also be required
  • The position may require extended hours during the workday as well as weekend work

Travel:

  • Travel to customers is required
  • Travel to other Esys locations may also be required
